Full Frame by Pentax has arrived! The K-1 takes greatness to the next level. As the first full frame DSLR engineered under the PENTAX brand, the K-1 brings outstanding performance, operability and affordability to photographers. With its large 36.4 megapixel CMOS image sensor, the K-1 incorporates all of the performance of a high-resolution full frame 35mm digital camera as well as all of the unique PENTAX-original features and technologies that photographers have become accustomed to, in a compact, rugged, weather-resistant body. 36.4 MP Full Frame Sensor The K-1’s unique full frame sensor is an AA filterless design that prioritizes image resolution. Coupled with the new PRIME IV imaging engine, it features 14-bit RAW-format image recording capability and super-high-sensitivity shooting up to ISO 204800, producing stunning high-resolution images in any shooting environment. New SR II In-Camera Shake Reduction The SR II five-axis shake reduction mechanism is redesigned to operate flawlessly with the new large full frame image sensor. Because SR II shake reduction is body-based, it works with all full frame compatible PENTAX interchangeable lenses. SR II shake reduction automatically detects the direction of the camera’s movement, and efficiently controls the SR unit to always produce the best image possible. Pixel Shift Resolution System with Motion Correction The K-1 uses the latest super-resolution technology allowing for sharp filterless performance, reducing moiré by capturing four images of the same scene, shifting the image sensor by a single pixel using SR II shake reduction technology, and then composing the four images into a single image. As SR II tilts the image sensor unit in all directions, it provides a host of handy additional shooting features, including auto level compensation and image-composition fine-adjustment. SAFOX 12 with 33 AF Sensor Points The new SAFOX 12 AF sensor module features 33 AF sensors (25 cross-type sensors positioned in the middle). The center sensor and the two sensors located just above and below it are designed to detect the light flux of an F2.8 lens, making it easy to obtain pinpoint focus on a subject when using a large-aperture lens. Dual Card Slot The K-1’s card slot accepts two SD memory cards, with a choice of three data filing modes: “Serial” to store a large volume of data successively from one card to another; “Duplicate” (simultaneous filing) for simplified data backup, and “RAW/JPEG Division” to separate data files based on the recording format. It is also possible to copy an image stored on one card to another. Unique PENTAX Pentaprism Optical Viewfinder Newly developed for its 35mm full-frame design, the K-1’s optical viewfinder provides a nearly 100-percent field of view and an approximately 0.70-times magnification. A Natural Bright Matt III focusing screen allows ease of focusing and a true-to-life rendition of defocused areas in the viewfinder image. Operation Assist LED Lighting The operation assist light function provides LED lights above the lens mount, behind the LCD monitor, at the memory card slot, and at the cable switch terminal to facilitate fast and easy operation in low light environments. New PRIME IV imaging engine optimized for a 35mm full-frame image circle The K-1 features a newly designed PRIME IV imaging engine. Compared with the previous PRIME III version, it is fine-tuned to process higher-resolution images, while boosting the operating frequency by nearly 50 percent. Its noise-processing algorithm has also been upgraded to capture beautiful, fine-gradation images at higher sensitivities. A combination of an advanced scene analysis system and new image-processing functions helps improve the accuracy and reliability of image reproduction. Dependable dustproof, weather-resistant construction Constructed of sturdy yet lightweight magnesium alloy with the inclusion of 87 sealing parts in the body, the K-1 also boasts a dustproof, weather-resistant and cold-resistant construction. Flexible Tilt-Type LCD monitor Aiming at aligning the photographer’s line of sight precisely with the camera’s optical axis while providing a flexible angle adjustment, PENTAX has designed an ideal LCD monitor for the K-1 by creating an innovative mechanism that supports the monitor with four stays. This monitor has reached two difficult goals that conventional monitors have failed to attain: no deviation from the optical axis; and unrestricted tilt in all directions, horizontally or vertically.
