With its newly developed 24.2MP APS-C sensor and powerful BIONZ X image processor, the Sony a6600 captures images with absolutely stunning detail, texture and clarity. The camera delivers brilliant 14-bit RAW images processed at 16-bit to keep tonal gradations as smooth and natural as possible. A wide standard sensitivity range of ISO 100-32,000 (expandable to a 102,400 for stills) ensures great results in all light, with remarkably low noise and superior shadow detail.
Enjoy rock-solid handheld shooting courtesy of the 5-axis in-body optical image stabilisation developed for Sony’s leading full frame cameras. Utilising a high-precision gyro sensor, this system counteracts hand/camera shake along five separate axes for sharper, apparently 5 stops faster results in both photos and videos.
The Sony a6600 is equipped for serious filmmaking. As well as richly detailed 4K HDR (HLG) video recording, the camera offers 1-60 second interval shooting for time lapse videos, slow motion (up to 5x plus Full HD at 120 fps) and quick motion (up to 60x) capture, with no recording limit. External microphone and headphone ports provide the option of pro-quality audio and the touchscreen monitor flips up for easy vlog framing.
Keep your recording accuracy in check with features like overlay markers/gridlines and zebra exposure metering, and maintain a seamless, professional workflow with tools such as clean HDMI output and RAC Control, timecode (TC/UB), variable frame rates, and proxy recording.
Capturing fast-moving subjects is easy with the Sony a6600’s ultrafast and sophisticated autofocus (AF) system. 425 phase-detection and 425 contrast-detection focus points enable AF in 0.02 seconds while real-time tracking employs AI to keep moving subjects in focus. Pin-sharp portraits and wildlife images are just about guaranteed thanks to Real-time Eye AF that tracks both human and animal eyes. This remarkable system can prioritise either a human subject’s right or left eye, and works even when the face is backlit, facing downwards or partially hidden.
Rapid processing speeds and a high-capacity buffer memory enable 11 fps continuous shooting (with AF/AE), with 8 fps with next to no display lag. As a result, you can capture split-second moments and see what you’ve shot while continuing to fire the shutter. With the shutter silenced you can shoot continuously at up to 8 fps with AF/AE tracking, even in AF-C mode, and with Real-time Eye AF or with Real-time Tracking – ideal when photographing performers, special events, babies, or animals.
Incorporating high-rigidity magnesium alloy construction and dust- and moisture-resistant seals, the Sony a6600 combines valuable design elements of both the a6000 and a7 series. The camera shares its frontal-view dimensions with previous a6000 series models and weighs just 503g (including battery and memory card). However, it offers 2.2x more battery capacity plus the added benefit of a more durable, ergonomic grip – meaning greater comfort throughout long shoots.
As well as offering touch-activated tracking, focus and shutter control the 921k-dot, 3.0” LCD screen tilts up by 180° and down by 74° for easy selfies/vlogs and high/low angle shooting. There’s also an electronic viewfinder (EVF) for shooting in tricky light, plus highly customisable menus and buttons.
Through Wi-Fi and NFC, Sony’s Imaging Edge Mobile app unlocks a fantastic range of features. Use your mobile device as a viewfinder/remote control and instantly share photos and videos to social media via the One-touch remote and One-touch sharing features. You can even geotag your images using your smartphone’s location data via Bluetooth.
